Noah talks to Demetra from LG about their partnership with Christian from Project Runway and the design of the LG Lotus. What's up with cell phone product placement in Heroes and Gossip Girl? And what might we already know about the next Android phone?... Battery life has been my most significant complaint about the G1. So I decided to find every instance where power was being used unnecessarily and eliminate the waste. Following these steps significantly extended the life of my battery. And I've continued to use the features that make the G1 worth owning. Of course a lot of these options apply to other devices as well. Some are specific to the G1. Recalibrate the battery I thought this problem... I don't want to kill anyone's Black Friday shopping buzz, or discourage you from buying the G1 as a holiday gift. But I have dedicated a lot of posts to pointing out the benefits of this phone, and it's operating system, Android. I think it's time that I cover some negative aspects of the device. Most design problems become apparent over time, and may not be recognizable during an in-store test. They're not the kind of thing you want to be... I've never used the iPhone Facebook app, so I can't compare. But fBook's description in the Android Market says it's "a wrapper that optimizes and fixes* the Facebook iPhone web app for your Android phone." The asterisk denotes a list of bug fixes: "1.)...composing message; layout issues 2.) Features: Send SMS, more to come." It does a lot more than the previously released Statusinator, and it's working well for me so far. It's listed under... With all of the methods of delivering data to cell phones, it can be a bit confusing to track down connectivity problems. Phones that are capable of EDGE and 3G data usually connect to which ever one provides the stronger signal. I recently moved to a weak 3G area, and found my G1 resorting to EDGE. What confused me was why, when my phone connected to my local Wi-Fi network, I had no Internet connectivity at all. My cable modem showed Internet... In response to several Emails we've received over the past day or two, here's what can I tell you re: The current state of the G1's Android Market and the super yummy "Ringdroid" app. More soon, I hope ...
Hello G1 Owners,
A few of you have emailed to ask about the "Ringdroid" app that was featured in one of my videos. I downloaded the app from the Android Market and used it to create a custom ringtone, as shown in the... Here's what the line at a star-studded opening typically looks like in New York City: Throngs of people waiting to get in, checking each other out and trying to look cool while celebrities blow past. Outside the T-Mobile G1 launch party at Skylight Studio, it wasn't much different, except everyone was checking out each other's hand candy—and grousing about the half hour wait to get in.
Inside, the scene was surreal. Crowds of designer-clad... Handango, the provider of countless games, productivity tools, entertainment software and business applications for the cell/smart phone, tablet PC and PSP markets, has made an announcement: it will be the first retailer to facilitate the distribution of developers' Android applications to end users.
Coders already have the ability to add Android programs to their Handango account, and can opt to charge a one-time purchase price; set up... Why mess around? You join the PhoneDog team, you live in New York City, you hit the T-Mobile G1 launch party. That's what we do.
PhoneDog is thrilled to welcome Adrianna Lee as our newest Contributing Editor. We're so thrilled, in fact, that for her first assignment we sent her to last night's G1 launch event in Lower Manhattan, where she got to check out the G1 first-hand, see The Raconteurs live, and hob-nob with the likes... As I indicated in my post on Silverlight for Android, a phone that could run both Silverlight and Flash could steal the title of "most web-friendly phone." Well, get a load of this. Adobe just released Flash 10, and it supports Linux from the get-go.
The previous version of Flash put Linux on the low-priority list; delivering support 6 months after Windows and Mac users were satisfied. Exciting stuff, considering the release of Android. When... Phone makers have been working with carriers to dress up and customize popular user interfaces in some exciting and beautiful ways, but evidence of the underlying OS often peeks through the cracks of a shiny, friendly veneer.
Take for example, the HTC TouchFlo 3D interface, which is incredibly sleek and fluid, as well as central to the identity of the phones that feature it. Certain aspects of Windows Mobile become evident at inopportune... More g1 articles »What’s Good: Android experience is excellent; Web browser is amongst best available on cell phones; Great touchscreen; Touchscreen plus trackball plus QWERTY board provides multiple input options; Notifications bar is handy; Great GMail & Google services implementation; 3G and WiFi for fast data speeds; Amazon provides DRM-free mp3 downloads via WiFi
What’s Not Good: Big, bulky, heavy, and not particularly attractive; QWERTY thumbboard... Well if your looking for something ideal for texting than either phone would be a good pick. Telling from the videos and reviews about the G1, I'm guessing the sidekick would have a better feel when texting. But if responsiveness isnt a big deal for you(not saying the G1 has a bad keyboard) than I would for sure go with the G1. It has everything a sidekick offers and more.
