Summary: the local calling area is too small to have any meaning and this was not clear in the advertising. a local area would be perhaps a radius of 5-10 miles, this is barely 5-10 blocks. the customer service people have been helpful in helping me figure this out, but the system is not good.

Cleartel Bad Service

Summary: I signed up for the wrong plan apparently. When I signed up I thought I was getting unlimited local calling. When I discovered my mistake, it has taken 2 months to get my plan changed to unlimited local calling, I had to make 4 phone calls and spend a lot of time on the phone. To make matters worse, when I initially discovered the error, Cleartel said I would have to pay for all the calls for the previous month and the next month, because it takes 30 days for a change to take effect. In my mind this service is unacceptable. There processing/lines must be archaic, other phone companies do not work this slowly. Granted, perhaps it was my error when I initially signed up, but I diligently tried to correct it and should not have had to spend so much time getting the correct plan. I would not recommend Cleartel to anyone. Their service stinks. I gave them a chance to make it right and they could have cared less.

Summary: Never had service hooked up . Received multiple billings for no service . After many phone calls ..... still trying to resolve billing problems . Customer service has been little help . Would never recommend this company .

Cleartel Review

Summary: In Houston, Cleartel is more expensive than Southwestern Bell, because they are forced to pass on $16 in "taxes and network charges", which I think Southwestern Bell imposes on them.

It took me 20 minutes to get through to a customer service rep when I called to understand the charges on my first bill, and to discuss what we could do to bring it down. It was a waste of time, because they couldn't bring it down.

For these reasons, I do not think this company is competitive in the Houston area, and I switched back to Southwestern Bell.
