Cleartel Residential Basic User Review
![]() Worst company everOverall Rating: By: Dennis on Thursday, November 10, 2005From: Arlington Heights, IL (United States) Experience: 2 Weeks Pros: NoneCons: See SummarySummary: Didn't set up our long distance after being repeatedly contacted by us and our long distnace provider.Cust service absoutlutelty wrong about who's responsisbility it was and rude about it. Still didn't get done after talking to two supervisors. Even after taking all afternoon to get them conferenced with Long distance provider and fianlly agreeing once again it was their mistake and it would be taken care of by such and such date. After being fed up and switching back to sbc, Cleartel sent us a bill. 46 out of 77 people found this review helpful
Cleartell CommunicationsOverall Rating: By: Janet Wadsworth on Monday, October 24, 2005From: Linthicum, MD (United States) Experience: 2 Months Pros: The ease of sign-up. My bill is at least $10 cheaper than my former service and I like the flat 3.9 cent long distance rate.Cons: My service with my former provider was not cancelled as stated. I needed to call and cancel myself.Summary: Overall I'm very satisifed with the service and the price. The basic service of 1000 local minutes is enough for even my dial-up internet usage with-out extra charges as I was paying before. 38 out of 62 people found this review helpful
Dissatisfied customerOverall Rating: By: Terry Callaghan on Monday, May 30, 2005Not rated 0 out of 5 From: Saranac, MI (United States) Experience: 1 Days Pros: I've discovered VOIPCons: You have never provided me service when I signed up. You never transferred by land line phone number either. Acutally, you did nothing on both counts.Summary: We are now happily connected with Vonage using our cable internet service. 48 out of 62 people found this review helpful
What a horrible experience!Overall Rating: By: Beth Etkin on Friday, May 27, 2005From: Rock Hill, (United States) Experience: 3 Months Cons: billing customer serviceSummary: I had nothing but trouble with this residential phone service. I was billed wrong each month that I had the service. I spent hours trying to solve this problem. I picked the plan with 1000 free local calling minutes. They billed me for every call that I made. Even billed for calling a residence right down the street from me. When I called their customer service, I was told to look in my local phonebook to see what was local in my area. Requested a supervisor to call me back and never received a call. Do yourself a favor and Stay away!!!!!!!!!! 31 out of 47 people found this review helpful
Better than VerizonOverall Rating: By: Maria Demarse on Friday, May 20, 2005From: New York, NY (United States) Experience: 3 Months Pros: Great price!Cons: 1)I am paying extra for voice mail but I don't have call waiting(or it doesn't work). When i realized this I thought I would cancel my voice mail but i was told i would have to pay to do that.So instead I am paying for "voice mail" and the "call waiting" is included for free but it doesn't work. 2)I would like to be able to pay my bill online.Summary: All and all I am happy wih Cleartel.Except for the whole "voice mail"/call waiting problem decribed above. 35 out of 49 people found this review helpful
CleartelOverall Rating: By: Diane Prewett on Friday, April 15, 2005From: Macon, GA (United States) Experience: 70 Days Cons: I signed up for a service that was to be $13.98 with auto pay by my credit card. Monthly charges were $25.00 and they never got the auto pay working. I received about 6 welcome to cleartel letters with magnets enclosed. I called each month and was told it was taken care of and to ignore past due notices. When I finally received a notice that the account had been turned over to collections, I made arrangements to go with another carrier. Summary: I do not recommend this company. They waste money sending out duplicate welcome letters with magnets and other promotional items enclosed. The customer service department was not able to get my credit card payments set up, even though they told me they had. I had to make numerous phone calls to try to remedy situation before becoming completely exasperated and changing companies. 26 out of 42 people found this review helpful
some glitchesOverall Rating: By: Gabrielle Singleton on Monday, February 28, 2005From: Ann Arbor, MI, (United States) Summary: It took several months to get my phone line actually switched, during which I was suprised every month by yet _another_ SBC bill. They apparently have a phone verification process I was not warned about and when they call they show up as "Unknown" on my caller ID. I never answered, they never left a message. Odd for a legitimate call. Secondly, my long distance did not get setup properly and after two calls to customer service I still cannot call Australia, which is the main reason I keep a land line. But the price is right, and the customer support people are very friendly and helpful. I am sure this will get resolved. 20 out of 33 people found this review helpful

Cleartel ReviewOverall Rating: By: Randi Mattson on Saturday, January 15, 2005From: Great Neck, (United States) Summary: I found out about Cleartel through the Phonedog web site, which was very helpful. I had become totally fed up with Verizon and their high prices for home residential phones. I was able to set up a new account with Cleartel very easily, and keep my current phone number. The Cleartel plan works extremely well, and they were even able to accomodate my request for an 800 number at a $5 per month charge. The only complaint I have at all is that it does not wind up being quite as inexpensive as I had hoped. I am not sure why that is as I find their bills a little difficult to decypher. Generally, though, I guess I am satisfied. 19 out of 35 people found this review helpful
cleartel does the jobOverall Rating: By: Anna Dembska on Monday, January 10, 2005From: New York, (United States) Summary: I'm happy with the service and the price is great. My only complaint is that to pay, you have to do it by snail mail, or give your credit card or bank information to someone on the phone every month, or agree to automatic payment with a credit card. i went with the auto pay but i would prefer to be able to pay at an online site. 16 out of 29 people found this review helpful
