Decisions, decisions.  As I mentioned earlier, Verizon’s now got four VCAST Messaging phones for heavy texters to choose from, and that’s not venturing into full-blown smartphone territory.  With LG’s Voyager taking over the flagship spot in VZW’s lineup, EnV2 slots in as more of a mid-range offering between Samsung’s Glyde and the low-end Alias.  EnV2 won’t give you a touchscreen or full HTML browsing like Voyager and Glyde, but you will get a few more features as compared to Alias — most notably a front keypad for calling/texting without having to open the device up.  And the price is right.

I can’t really decide if EnV2 is right for you, but I can tell you a few things to help you make your own decision.  If you want a do-it-all, top of the line device you’ll probably like Voyager or Glyde — or a VZW smartphone — more than EnV2.  If you want a phone for heavy Email use on the go, skip directly to the BlackBerry Curve or Pearl as their Email service can’t be beat.  If you want the thinnest, smallest VZW handset with a full keyboard, that’s Alias, not EnV2.

But if you want a solid performer for calls, messaging, and music/video — or if you liked the original V and EnV but wished they were a little smaller and easier to carry around — you’ll probably like EnV2.  It’s very good at what it was built to do, which is make calls and handle mobile messaging.  With its roomy QWERTY board and internal display, EnV2 is ready for serious texting and IMing out of the box, and while VZW really should give you more if they’re going to charge $5/month for that mobile Email client, you can always opt for the free Webmail service instead.  The music and video players are pretty good, and while EnV2’s camera is just a bit sub par, it’s fine for spur of the moment snapshots and sending picture and video messages.

EnV2 is still just a little bulky for my tastes, but it’s a vast improvement over The V and EnV that came before it.  If you’re in the market for a VCAST phone with QWERTY, EnV2 is definitely worth a look.  Get it in your hands before you buy if you can, and make sure its size, shape, and QWERTY board feels good; if it does, odds are you’ll be happy as an EnV2 owner for at least a year or so before EnV3 comes along to woo you away.

Friday, December 26, 2008I just got the phone yesterday and have been playing with it pretty much non-stop. I had the original EnV for about a year and loved it for the most part until it had some internal issues come up...I believe it was just due to the age and the wear and tear it experienced. I will never go back to a non-QWERTY phone ever again. I'm hooked and I can't see how we even lived without it before. I think the phone looks great, much smaller and more convenient. The features are all nice and while the external screen may be small, it's not hard to read so I don't know why there's so much complaint about it. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is the fact that there aren't many features different then the original. It's more of a cosmetic upgrade than an internal one. Still, it's a nice phone and I'm pretty happy.

Thursday, December 25, 2008this phone is actually a very bad phone. my sister has had it for several months now and she cant wait to get rid of it... The phone has really bad service and the sivler paint on the outside scratches off easily. I would prefer you to get a cover for this phone immediately. I also despise the phone because of the small screen it has in the front. Its so annoying. I hate texting with it. I dont know how my sister bares it... I'm more of the big-heavy-phone type person...

Sunday, December 21, 2008Noah, do you think this phone is a little to girly for guys, or do you think it's a cool phone for a guy to have? I told one of my friends that I might get the phone because I thought it looked cool, but he said that it was more of a girl phone than a guy phone! Now I'm asking you for your personal opinion on that question? Please tell me!

Tuesday, December 16, 2008im planning on getting this phone for christmas. i just hope it doesn't get "out-dated" fast because i have a two year contract with it. i just want to know if it is worth the money i have to pay? it seems like a wonderful phone and i love the way it looks. im probably going to get it in black, maroon looks nice, too.

Tuesday, December 16, 2008my biggest problem with this phone is the speakers. why put two on the inside of the phone when there isn't one on the outside. so when the phone is closed, the sound is muffled and harder to hear in my pocket, even on the highest sound level. the first "notch" when the phone opens is angled really ueslessly also. but other than those gripes, it's a pretty sweet phone.

Thursday, December 11, 2008I've had 6 replacments of this phone. It's an amazing phone... when it works. The silver on the front of it comes off really easily. Also, the place where it charges breaks a lot. I loved the phone, but i switched to the Voyager because i got fed up with all the problems mine had. All in all though, it's a pretty good phone. Amazing for texting, and the front of the phone is actually entirely easy to use.

Thursday, December 04, 2008This phone is great. It's a perfect phone for those who want to call and text, and not too much else. If you don't need the best e-mail client or a full browser, this is it. It doesn't have the problems the voyager has. It's not too big. I love this phone. Do to a verizon store and look at it so you can see what the size is. Also, buy it from letstalk.com. It's usually free, or sometimes $50 with a $50 mail in rebate. Much cheaper than buying it from verizon.
