Nokia 6820/6820i

User rating 3.8   Read reviews - Add review
The Nokia 6820 is the second offering in Nokia's Messenger Line that features phone-first form factor with a unique rotating color display and QWERTY keyboard. The Nokia 6820 enhances the wireless experience with a wider keypad to eliminate cumbersome fat-fingered entries, an integrated camera for picture taking and sharing, numerous messaging options-SMS, MMS, PIM, IM, and Email, and EDGE-capable speed for faster data transmission.

Best phone for messaging

Overall Rating:
3.8 out of 5
By: Meaghan S. on Friday, July 14, 2006
From: DoNotWishToGive, SF Bay Area (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: No more predictive text or cryptic abbreviations.
Full QWERTY keyboard when flipped open.
When open, still small enough to hold comfortably.
When closed, still a compact phone.
Bluetooth compatible.
Nice color screen.
Can be used to send regular email, not just text messages to other phones.

Cons: Some color schemes can't be seen against the wallpaper.
Camera quality mediocre (but you're not buying it for the camera...)
Message length outbound is puny (about 140 chars); inbound, it will string 3 messages together, giving approx 320 chars.

Summary: Before Nokia came out with this 6820 model, I had their 6800, which was a little longer and a little fatter. Considering it has a full QWERTY keyboard, this one is sleek and compact. The flip-open keyboard means no more T9 predictive text guessing the wrong word, and no more bizarre abbreviations: spell it out! It will even accept longer inbound messages than just 140 characters; it just splits them into 140-character chunks.

I am afraid that Nokia will discontinue this model in favor of Blackberries or other similar types which offer lots of bells and whistles nobody ever uses on a regular basis. Until then, I will treat this one with great care!
