LG Venus

User rating 2.3   Read reviews - Add review
The LG Venus slider sports dual front screens with the bottom half a dedicated touch screen that changes icons in relation to what's diplayed on the top screen. Key features include Haptic feedback, EVDO high speed data, 2.0 megapixel camera with video capture and an expandable memory card slot up to 8GB.
What’s Good: Beautiful display; Context-sensitive menus; Extensive feature set; VZ Navigation works very well

What’s Not Good: Half a touchscreen sometimes feels gimmicky and frustrating; Touch controls sometimes unresponsive; Poor voice quality with unacceptable hiss on some calls; Somewhat bulky overall

Bottom Line: Venus’ half-touch/half-not display is an interesting idea that ultimately frustrated me more than it charmed me.  The screens are beautiful and the morphing menus great, but I found myself wanting to touch the entire screen and not just the lower portion.  Some won’t mind this, though, and for those Venus may be a dream come true: it’s a feature-rich slider with a beautiful high-res display and access to all of Verizon’s multimedia offerings save VCAST TV.

Tuesday, January 06, 2009i got my venus phone last year in june. i love the touch screen part and the fetures. it has just about every thing i wanted in it. One thing that really bugs me is when you dial numbers a voice (just like the one on voice commands) says each number right after you dial it.it gets really annoying and i have no clue how to stop it! also when you are reciving a call (or you just dialed and connected the number) the same voice you hear on the voice commands blerts out: VERIZON WIRELESS and that half the time frightings me very badly.but beside those few details i love my phone alot!

Pros: looks good, music player is decent, nice form factor, camera setup is nice

Cons: horrible battery life, touchscreen is gimmeky at best, keypad is terrible,C amera also horrible bad build quality overall

Summary: got my venus nearly a year ago, it worked decently for the first few weeks but then the touchscreen started to go. Let's get this straight: the touchscreen isnt that good to start with, i'll touch one corner and it'll select the exact opposite or i push as hard as i can and it wont register sometimes th screen registers a click but the phone wont. Now the screen is horrible, i can barely get it to work, and i dont abuse my phones. without use of the touchscreen all you can really do is make calls(thats why i marked down ease of use, without the screen it isnt easy to use at all). The keyboard was good to start with too but now its really mushy, keys get stuck, they wiggle loose, the paint is coming off of them, once again i dont abuse my phones so i dont know why it's happening. Overall build quality was decent to start with, it had a good wieght and the back has a nice feel, however it's very plastiky. Now it feels like its falling apart, the slider mechanism feels like it'll throw the screen off of the phone if you slide it too fast. The camera is a piece of junk too. I know its only 2mp but i figured it would be a little bit better then it is. Every picture i have is horribly blurred, movie capture is just a bunch of blurs moving around, you need to have the phone still and the subject still to have any chance at getting a good shot. Now dont get me wrong, this was a good phone when i first bought it. It had extremely nice screens, it didn't feel too shabby the touchscreen worked and all of my friends were jealous of its good looks. However it seriously needs some work on the hardware side to make it worth it, and the software could work alittle nicer with the phone too. i dont know if it was just mine that fell apart or not but i hate my phone now, im ditiching it soon it's so bad.

Pros: It is a amazing phone. Camera is superb.

Cons: none

Summary: The venus is a very well thought out phone. E verything about it is great. The video and music features rock. The slider feature is helpful and texting is easier then it looks.
