HTC Touch

User rating 4.8   Read reviews - Add review
The Touch is HTC's answer to Apple's iPhone. The Touch sports a large display featuring Touch FloTM technology providing the user with a clear, vibrant interface loaded with multimedia and communicaton tools. Other key features include Mobile 6 Professional, hand writing recognition, stereo bluetooth and 5 way navigation.
HTC TouchThe new P3450 is the latest gadget from HTC and offers a new Touch technology never before seen on a Windows Mobile device. In competition with the iPhone, HTC has released their touch-technology called TouchFLO. Although both devices are similar, which is better phone? The Touch is smaller than the iPhone, weighs less and also comes SIM unlocked but does that make it better? What is the price difference between the Touch and iPhone? Will your service provider offer the Touch?

The Touch has a beautiful design, and is a lot smaller than it looks. The Touch weighs only 112 grams and measures 99x 58x 13.9 mm. To put in perspective the HTC TyTN also known as the Cingular 8525 weighs 176 grams and measures 113x 58x 22 mm. The phone’s material is the same as the one found on the HTC S620/ T-Mobile dash and has a “rubberized” feel to it.

Comparing the Touch to other HTC devices, there is not as many hardware buttons: it has only 4 buttons, excluding the volume slider; talk, end, camera and power button. Furthermore, the camera button is the only one that can be customized from the settings.

Unlike the iPhone, the Touch comes with a built in stylus. HTC has spent a lot of time developing the new TouchFLO software but has done nothing for the standard Windows Mobile on screen keyboard. The keyboard is a big factor; with a Touch-based device you should not have to use the stylus for typing. The on screen keyboard is the exact same as in past devices and when trying to type with your thumbs/finger tips you make far too many mistakes. The good news is that you can easily install third party keyboard software which makes a HUGE difference. My favorite is SPB Full Screen Keyboard which can be found here:

HTC has some sort of deal with SPB because of the GPRS Monitor that comes with many new HTC branded phones, so it would have been ideal that they included this keyboard app too!

From: Columbia, SC (United States)
Experience: 22 Days
Pros: The length, width, and weight is compact, and heavy enough to feel it on your person making it easy to locate. Front, side, back pocket and the clip ons are comfortable. Secondnly, the option to use a larger print on keyboard and homepage with the time of day.

Cons: 1. Calendar options don't allow the first page to be a monthly view. You have to go to Menue, then View, and then u can choose wether u want daily, weekly or monthly. Too many steps.
2. Phone battery dosen't stay charged long, even with all data comm. in off position.
3. Too many steps to foward a text message. And Still have not been able to foward a text. The option to foward or save a text s/b write there. Its not.
4. Alarm clock only allows three alarms times. when I need FOUR a

Summary: The Touch Diamond is not User Frienly. There are too many steps to go through to get to any one operation. Not recommended for people who enjoy checking there phone for recent updates while driving. Even if your stopped at a red light. At that same red light you may have time to turn the bluetooth on from the device.

HTC Touch Alltel

Overall Rating:
4.3 out of 5

Pros: Excellent package and options. Easy to use. Very user friendly

Cons: Battery life only fair. Speaker phone not great

Summary: I am a Financial Director and was looking for a phone to use for work with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. This phone has proven to be a winner for me. I love the main screen which shows me calendar events, messages, and weather instantly. I also love the cube options with my favorite phone #'s with picture capability of the person I need to call. The camera is very good at 2 megpixal. If there is any down side to the phone that I have found it might be the speaker phone. I have used it twice in the office and it cut out and in with static. It could be the office building I am not sure but the ear piece had not static. Also the battery has not lasted to my expectations when the phone is used considerably during the day. It will still certainly last a full day or more but not what I was expecting. All in all I love this phone. I was debating between this and the Blackberry Curve. I stayed away from the Blackberry because of no Office, Messenger, Word, Excel, and Outlook. I highly recommend this phone to anyone. You will love it. The 400hz processor is adequate.

HTC XV6900

Overall Rating:

By: Gina Schild on Saturday, May 03, 2008
From: Houston, TX (United States)
Experience: 7 Days
Pros: Amall, light weight, compact, LOUD ring, excellent cqll quality & sound

Cons: Only touch screen, hard to use when texting

Summary: Seems to be a good phone. Call quality is amazing, ring tone can be VERY loud which I like. It is hard to get used to the touch only screen but I am trying to adjust. Windows on it is amazing and much easier to set uo than I expected (email). Phone is really user friendly which surprised me. Screen's brightness is adjustable you just have to look for it in settings. It is bright enough to be viewed outside.
ringer is loud, call sound is loud and screen print is large.
The phone is compact but slick - I would recommend a skin of some kind.
So far (1 week) I say thumbs up!
