Alltel, please unlock MMS on Palm 755p

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5

Pros: Great reception, great customer service, fair pricing

Cons: See below.

Summary: Alltel has gone a LONG way in providing the best coverage area for Western Michigan. Buying a quality handset will get you coverage nearly everywhere, as an avid outdoorsman, 2,300 miles of mtn biking in a three county area, I get way off the beaten track and with a simple Razr have been able to share images back to my newspaper website using MMS. I'm in the market for a smartphone and am testing a Palm 755p. After checking on the Palm site I made sure the phone had the feature. After getting the phone and using it for the weekend. I love it except they don't allow MMS using the Palm. They allow email, but here's why that doesn't work. I manage a website, three actually, and I have users who send me picture messages that I then pass thru to the site. If, big if, if I can get them to change to emailing me photos there is the issue of the 6-8 additional attachments, Alltel logos and disclaimers that I can't strip out of the email. So now I'm looking at the HTC touch, which, inexplicably they allow MMS on... Please be smart and let the 30 buck a month data users pick how they want to text message.

Good...until there's a problem

Experience: 4 Months
Pros: Good service, quick replacement of warranty items.

Cons: Bad customer service.

Summary: I got the Samsung Hue for $20 with a 2 year contract about 4 months ago. The charger is in a very awkward position and is used for both the charger and headphone jack. I hook my phone up to the charger every night as I assume most people do. Well, a couple weeks ago the phone stopped recognizing it was hooked to a charger and would not charge. Alltel sent me a replacement very quickly.(this was also broken and they replaced it as well) A week later I received my original phone back at my house. They said it was out of warranty because of "physical damage". The phone is in perfect shape except for the jack, where you must plug your charger. So now my option is keep the original that won't charge the battery, or buy the replacement they sent me for $160(I only spent $20 on the first one). I think I'm gonna go with option C which is break the contract for $200(40 bucks more) and get Verizon and a brand new phone for free. I guess I feel that good customer service would be recognizing I didn't beat this phone up (I merely used it as it was made to be used and the jack got screwed up) and letting me keep the new phone. Only in a perfect world I guess.

Alltell services

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5

From: Okoboji, IA (United States)
Experience: 6 Months
Pros: 2 local stores in my area

Cons: The local service people are not very nice to you when you go into the store.

Summary: I wanted to upgrade to a better phone for my hearing impairment. I can't do this unless I pay full retail price for the phone & If I do this I have to pay $200.00 to end our contract. Right now I am using a microphone attached to the phone & I can't get a new one of these because I gone through 3 of these since we have been with them.

Disappointing customer service-Overcharged final bill

Overall Rating:

Pros: Local Alltel Store very helpful & concluded many billing errors that customer service number refused to handle.

Cons: poor customer service at the toll free service center number. Inflexible and do not stand behind what they promise.

Summary: Been customer since 2001. Moved in 2006 & quality of service poor in new area. Constantly charged roaming charges every month & when contract was completed was charged additional 3 weeks, since billing date didn't coincide with end of contract.Alltel refused to pro-rate charges even when I was told prior to end of contract they would. Changed to Verizon-very happy.

My Experience

Overall Rating:
1.7 out of 5
By: Jason T. on Tuesday, January 22, 2008
From: Hillsboro/Perham, MN (United States)
Experience: 5 Months
Pros: Axcess TV, XM Radio Mobile

Cons: Rude customer service, high bills, drooped calls, have a hard time calling outside of my home network that either includes a busy signal for no apperant reason or a message that states, please reenter your 10 digit number, followed by the number sign, as if I have to reenter it twice, which is annoying.

Summary: Enough said! Just switched to Verizon. I did like the XM Radio though.

Pretty Good All Around

Overall Rating:
4.7 out of 5

From: Memphis, TN (United States)
Experience: 12 Years
Pros: Great coverage in my area (few dropped calls). Pretty good selection of phones. Good customer service most of the time.

Cons: Only regional, although they are expanding quickly.

Summary: I think Alltel offers very good services for being a regional company. They provide great customer service and will usually bend rules to help out clients. Plus they use EV-DO for mobile broadband which is blazing fast compared to GSM (AT&T/Cingular). Also, MyCircle is great.

Alltel Wireless

Overall Rating:
4 out of 5
By: D'Lisa Wade on Friday, January 11, 2008
From: Odessa, TX (United States)
Experience: 7 Years
Pros: Good signals...thats about it!!!

Cons: Bad customer service!!

Summary: I have been a alltel customer for over 6 years. I decided to upgrade my phone and chose the motorola wafer, well the phone had a bad echoing issue in which i took the phone back up to the alltel store and told them. They said there is nothing they could do because they could only give me another phone just like the one I had bought and it to would have a echo problem. So since I had originally bought the phone on line I called the so called customer service people and they told me if they sent me new phone I would pay the $300.00 and when I sent my broken phone back they would refund me the $300.00.....NOT its been 7 months and all they can tell me is there is nothing they can do it got lost!!! They told me to send the phone back regular mail and thats what I did and then they proceeded to tell me they did not tell me that....so there is no tracking number so theres is nothing they can do!!

No Customer Loyalty

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: tony Marcom on Monday, December 31, 2007
From: Raleigh, NC (United States)
Experience: 15 Years
Pros: Few dropped calls, excellent reception even in rural areas, my circle

Cons: no customer loyalty, poor customer service

Summary: It has become apparent to me that once you sign the dotted line with Alltel, they no longer care whether you stay or go after your contract expires. I have been an Alltel customer since they merged with 360. I have had the same phone number for 15+ years. Until two years ago, I had up to 4 lines with them. I switched 3 of those lines because Alltel would not give me the same specials they were offering "new" customers.Even though I was willing to sign new 2 year contracts, the only way I could qualify for the specials was to get all new phone numbers. Instead of rewarding me for being a loyal cumtomer, they simple turned their back on me so they lost those 3 lines.

Fastforward 2 years and nothing has changed. The company I switched to did not have nearly the coverage that Alltel has where I am. Those contracts expired and my intentions were to switch them back to Alltel. I found a deal on free phones at the motorola web site. My plan was to switch 2 lines back to Alltel and sign a new contract with the 1 exsiting line I still had with them. Even though I was willing to sign a new contract, they refused to accept the motorola offer because I was not a "new" customer. I would have to get a new number.

So, instead of getting 2 new lines of service and keeping an existing customer, I will be moving all 3 lines to another carrier who is offering similar specials through the motorola site.

I hope someone from Alltel reads these reviews and brings this to corporate's attention. Maybe they should look at Time Warner Cable. Even as an existing customer, if they have a special going on for new customers, they will give it to you if you ask.

Do the math Alltel......3 lines of service gone for the price of 1.
