ALLTEL Wireless User Reviews![]() What a JOKE!!Overall Rating: By: Lan Noon on Tuesday, August 12, 2008From: Tuc, AK (United States) Experience: 2 Years Pros: Service to an extent.Cons: Customer service SUCKS!! and delivery!!Summary: Ordered a new phone, customer service said they will do over night shipping will be there on Saturday, I agreed to this because I would be home (like most people I work during the week) and I was ok so I don’t have to drive to the store and pick one up. Nice right well it is TUESDAY and do I have my phone. . . . Nope!! The lady was wrong over night on a Friday is considered MONDAY, well UPS will not drop it off without a signature and when will they be there between 9am-6pm guess what I work those hours and it is BS alltel because of one person not knowing how to place an order has F-ed everything up. . . what does alltel say to that well we cannot stop shipment and refund the money it will take up to 3-4 MONTHS to refund my money!! They need to comp my entire phone for this crap OverchargedOverall Rating: By: Kel G on Tuesday, August 12, 2008From: Carbondale, IL (United States) Experience: 4 Years Pros: Good signal -- nothing elseCons: Terrible customer service TERRRRRRIBLE! You try to get something done and have to go through 50 different people, and A doesn't know what B is doing... that sorta thing. Summary: I just moved to St. Louis from Southern Illinois. My plan is nationwide, and free mobile to mobile. However, something got screwed up when I moved here and they have been charging me minutes against the other people I talk to who also have AllTel. My bill last month was almost $400 (The first month I had ever been charged over was also the first month I had lived in STL). I knew it wasn't right and ended up finding hundreds (YES hundreds) of mistakes on my bill which I highlighted and brought in. The service rep said he would send it in to be investigated and we would be rebilled within 2 weeks before the bill was actually due. Its been a month and a half and still, no bill. I keep getting texts from AllTel telling me that if I don't pay my bill my phone will be shut off. I keep calling them to see what is going on and they keep telling me they will get back to me. I don't know when this will end... my suggestion is that if your bill ever goes over, REALLy look closely... they can really get you. Customer Service NightmaresOverall Rating: By: melinda lor on Wednesday, August 06, 2008From: mascotte, FL (United States) Experience: 1 Years Pros: Excellent signalsCons: Poor customer serviceSummary: In April of 2007, I've joined Alltel. I told the sale associate that I want my cell phone to block all text messages. He said he will do it for me. 5 days later, I got charges for text messagings. I called Alltel customer service, the rep said she will blocked the text messages, but I still have to pay for the text I've receives. 3 days later, I'm still getting charges for new text messages. I called Alltel again, the text messages was not blocked. The rep said she will blocked it. 7 days later, I got charges again. Called in, rep said they cannot blocked text messages, only the supervisors can. I got this solved, but have to pay $40 for text messagings that came from people I don't know. In May,2008 I did a market to market transfered due to out of state moving. I also changed from $39.99 400 minutes basic plan into a $59.99 900 minutes+my circle plan. The rep even walked me through how to enter my circle numbers and save it. She said I can use my circle numbers in 24 hrs. All these changes drive me more crazy, eventhough, I am one of the world most patience people. I got charges for 2 plans now, and the $59.99 package does not exist. My circle does not exist. I got charges for my old plan $39.99 and because I went over my 400 minutes by 1000 minutes, my bill was over $300. I called in and they kept on saying that they got it fix, but there was nothing done every time I called in. Every rep say something different every time and they refuse to get me a supervisor. I'm still fighting with them and todat is August 5, 2008. It was an auto withdraw at first, but I've canceled it, and they still take money out my bank account. I've talked to my bank but the bank will charge me for investigating the withdraws. The rep still say something different every time I called in. Don't know what else to do, Can I sue them? Is this gonna cause me more money? God Help Us! I'm gone after my contract and I want you all to stay away from Alltel. 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful
Best provider in the southeastOverall Rating: By: Nate Harvey on Wednesday, July 30, 2008From: Apex, NC (United States) Experience: 5 Years Pros: Signal Strength: I get signal in places where my friends on Sprint, Cingular, and Verizon get nothing. I get service in elevators, at the lake, way out in the woods while hunting, in the city and in rural places. I have used Alltel for the last 5 years and have had less than 10 dropped calls over that time period. I have traveled to Minnesota, New York, Tennessee, Florida by road and never had a place where I got no signal. Plans: MyCircle (you select 5, 10, or 20 numbers which aCons: The selection of phones that use a SIM card is small, meaning that you can't use most of their phones when traveling internationally. Summary: Alltel beats all other providers at signal strength, plans, and pricing. If you purchase a plan that actually has enough minutes in the first place and you pay your bills when they are due, you will have an excellent experience with Alltel. Most of the negative reviews below talk about terrible customer service and bill collections, but if you read carefully you will see that these "service issues" stem from inability to choose the proper plan or failure to pay bills on time. One final thought: the provider is only as good as the phone you buy...if you buy a $0.99 phone, you'll have a $0.99 experience, but if you get something middle of the road and up, it'll be great. Not recommendedOverall Rating: By: D Woods on Thursday, July 17, 2008From: Edgewood, NM (United States) Experience: 2 Years Pros: noneCons: Poor quality phone/serviceSummary: I got three phones (kyocera)the rep. told me these were good phones, no problems. They are CRAP, do not buy this brand. The phone shuts itself off, won't hold a charge, doesn't always let you know when you have a voice mail, and many more problems. I have bought 5 car chargers, and all of them were crap and only worked from 2 weeks to three months, at $15.00 each! The phone makes a bunch of clicking noises, just like the old rotery dial before connecting. Many dropped calls, and often my phone will be searching for the signal...at my home, where it gets the signal the rest of the time. This is not a weather related issue, sunny and the tower is only about a mile or so away. I tried to drop the third line when my son join the military and went overseas, since he wouldn't be able to use it there...they wanted me to pay over $200 to drop it. The government needs to address this issue as well as the fact that each carrier makes you use THEIR phone. We don't have that restrictions with land line phone companies, why are cell providers allowed to have individual monopolies? I can't wait, only a few more weeks and I can throw out the trash phones and find a carrier that will provide decent service. If you're suing Alltel, I'd like to joinOverall Rating: By: James Gannon on Tuesday, May 20, 2008From: Fairview Park, OH (United States) Experience: 5 Years Pros: none now. A few years back Alltel had better reception and coverage than other plans, probably not true today.Cons: Obnoxious collections people, worthless complaints department and Obstinance of supervisors to appropriately address customer complaints. They text you Alltel advertisment messages when you have a voice only phone plan, then charge you for opening the text, or deleting it. They try to sneak services, like Roadside assistance into your phone bill, I got it stopped, but when I changed numbers they re-applied the Roadside assistance, despite my stating not to have the feature up frontSummary: I live in Ohio and work in Michigan. Alltel customer 4 years never missed a payment. We mailed payment last May 2007 it did not get processed by Alltel contractor. Alltell collections personnell harrassed me 2 times, once after I had already in writing complained to Alltel and the BBB regarding the issue. I explained the payment in full would be re-mailed with the June payment, they disconnected my service. I discussed the situation with a biling coordinator who stated I was a loyal customer and she apologized for the inconvenience and reinstated service. One day later, while at a conference out of state my phone suddenly had problems charging the battery (never had a problem till Alltel disconnected service the day before). Other things happened, then Alltel disconnected service again prior to the June Due date; although when I returned home I found Alltel had already recieved payment prior to disconnecting service a second time. I requested Alltel let me turn in the phones and cancel the contract due to their disrespect and voiding the contract by disconnecting service on a paid account; the Alltel representative, refused ( she said I could pay a $400 fee to terminate the contract early). All during this situation, Alltel has that fraudulant commercial about switching "plans" (implying you can switch carriers) without fees. Whever I complained, odd things began happening with my phone and signals. Never use Alltel. My contract ends this June 2008 and I will be gone from them. 2 out of 3 people found this review helpful
The Worst Experience Ever!Overall Rating: By: Derek Davis on Tuesday, May 20, 2008From: Letcher, SD (United States) Experience: 3 Months Pros: NONE!Cons: They gave me a junk phone, and a plan that didn't even exist. By the time I found out the Alltel Rep. had given me a fake plan I had already racked up a $200 bill, because they just changed my plan without notifying me, because the plan I signed up for didn't exist. Then they changed my plan again and I had to pay $20 dollars a month more to get LESS minutes than I had signed up for! Their customer service reps are very rude, their managers are even more rude! After 3 months I disconnected mSummary: This is the WORST company EVER! They have cheap phones, bad customer service, bad plans, no plans with 100% no roaming! I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone!!! I gave them more than enough time to make things right, but it never happened! VERY UNSATISFIED!!!!! 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful
Stay as far away from ALLTEL as you can!!!!Overall Rating: By: Toni Cameron on Sunday, April 20, 2008From: Longview, TX (United States) Experience: 11 Years Pros: None over any other cellular companyCons: Plans and phones are more expensive. In my opinion practices are unethical and very anti customer oriented.Summary: I bought a phone which was still under warranty when it broke. We went to the Alltel office and they informed me that we would receive a replacement phone in the mail which we did. After receiving the replacement phone we went back to the Alltel office to have it activated. The replacement phone did not work either. We returned to the Alltel office and they again told us we would receive a replacement phone in the mail which we did. After receiving this phone we again returned to the Alltel office to have the new replacement phone activated. At this time we shipped both non working phones in the same box back to Alltel. They received the package by their own admission. The next thing I know I am being charged $599.99 for a used phone and $49.50 in taxes for a total of $649.49 for, and I repeat a used phone. I contacted Alltel and they said they only received one phone. I explained to them if they got one phone they got both phones as they were shipped in the same box. They said I should have sent them in seperate boxes. It messes up their system to send in one box. I have spoken with them 4 times about this situation. In the meantime they have shut off my service for a phone in which they have received and I do not owe for. Not to mention my phone was shut off 15 days into my billing cycle but yet they want to to pay for the whole month when they shut off the service because of their own stupidity and ineffective business practices. In effect breaking our contract. Yeahh for me. I have been a customer for 11 years with a phone bill of over 200.00 per month and this is how I was treated. Please use another cellular company to avoid this type of ordeal that I have experienced with Alltel. 9 out of 10 people found this review helpful
Alltel is the worst service provider on marketOverall Rating: By: Zach H on Sunday, March 30, 2008From: Ann Arbor, MI (United States) Experience: 2 Years Pros: The only pro is the price of the plans and the my circle where you can call 10 people of your choice for free.Cons: The cons are the fact that you have to pay full price for your phone if ur phone breaks. My friends use verizon and tmobile and although they didnt get completely free phones, they didnt have to pay retail on them. Another BIG CON is the fact that if you get any smart phone like a blackberry, you have to get a blackberry plan which costs 45 dollars a month. I learned this the hard way when I broke my phone and got a blackberry phone, they started charging me 45 dollars a month. I called them andSummary: The cons are the fact that you have to pay full price for your phone if ur phone breaks. So yeah, if u want cheap service without an all round carrier go for alltel, or else dont waste ur money behind it. 8 out of 12 people found this review helpful
Customer ServiceOverall Rating: By: Diane Carrigan on Friday, March 28, 2008From: Liberty, NE (United States) Experience: 13 Years Pros: I don't have any prosCons: Everybody fall al over you until you have a problemSummary: I have been a customer for over 13 years. No problems. I upgraded last year and all of a sudden I cannot get signals where I could always get them before. I tried over and over to get some solution to this problem and encountered the rudest group of people I have ever met. Not one was willing to even try until my 6' 2" husband went in and threatened them. They had been verbally abusive to me on several occasions. When my contract is up, I will never use Altell again 9 out of 13 people found this review helpful
