'Tis the Season: Playstation Phone for Xmas? Which Xmas?Confused? So am I. Peter Ahnegard, the head honcho of gaming at Sony Ericsson, told Pocket Gamer that while current high-end SE handsets like the P1 and W960 have the hardware to provide a PSP-esque gaming experience, a Playstation Phone is, "obviously something that we're looking at but right now I can't really comment. Before Christmas, certainly... but exactly which Christmas I can't confirm!" The playful (ahem) Mr. Ahnegard said some interesting things about the future of handset gaming, and the interesting potential of connected gaming and GPS-aware gaming on mobile phones. Personally, I really like the idea of mobile games as extensions of console titles - a concept that Ahnegard described in the interview. And as for the handsets themselves? "In two years I'd expect to see something like a Pentium 2 1GHz processor and memory of 60Gb in your handset," Ahnegard speculated. "We will also see more 3D hardware acceleration with dual-purpose chipsets that enhance gaming and streaming video." That's just crazy. Entirely realistic, but crazy nonetheless. |
